The Rangers have agreed to terms with restricted free-agent defenseman Jacob Trouba, whom they acquired from the Jets in a major offseason trade.

The deal reached Friday with Trouba, 25, is for seven years and $56 million, with an $8 million salary cap hit for the upcoming season. 

Seattle's new NHL franchise has its first general manager.

Hall of Famer Ron Francis was named the expansion team's GM Thursday.

"After seven months of due diligence, research, conversations, interviews and evaluation, we are thrilled to announce Ron as our GM," NHL Seattle CEO Tod Leiweke said in a statement.

Francis will receive a multiyear contract from the team, a source told ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

The St. Louis Blues have reached a deal with goaltender Jordan Binnington on a two-year contract with an annual average value of $4.4 million, the Stanley Cup champions announced Saturday.

Binnington had been a restricted free agent and avoided arbitration by agreeing to the deal on Saturday.

The Vancouver Canucks continued their offseason makeover by signing free-agent forward Micheal Ferland on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

Ferland gets a four-year deal with an average annual value of $3.5 million, according to reports.

The Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday signed a pair of players they traded for over the past week to new contracts.

Forward Alex Kerfoot received a four-year, $14 million deal, and defenseman Cody Ceci has re-upped for one year and $4.5 million.

Both players were restricted free agents.

The Carolina Hurricanes took less than 24 hours to declare they'll match the offer sheet signed by restricted free agent center Sebastian Aho, which was tendered by the Montreal Canadiens on July 1.

Aho, 21, signed a five-year, $42.27 million contract.

The New York Islanders saw their previous captain, John Tavares, walk in free agency. They weren't going to let it happen again, agreeing with Anders Lee on a seven-year, $49 million contract, according to multiple reports.

Lee became the Islanders captain this past season after Tavares bolted for Toronto.

The Florida Panthers gave new coach Joel Quenneville some big pieces heading into next season with the signings of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and defenseman Anton Stralman on Monday.

The Panthers announced both signings, and according to reports, Bobrovsky gets a seven-year deal with an annual average value of $10 million, and Stralman gets $5.5 million per year for three years.

The Columbus Blue Jackets had a lot of production to replace with Matt Duchene and Artemi Panarin leaving, and they made a small move toward doing that with the signing of Gustav Nyquist on Monday, according to reports.

According to TSN, the 29-year-old Nyquist gets a four-year deal with an annual average value of $5.5 million.

The Dallas Stars have signed former Sharks captain Joe Pavelski as they juggle of their forward lines.

The team announced that the 35-year-old Pavelski gets a three-year, $21 million contract.
